PUBHLTH482: Writing in Public Health

  • Description: Students will reflect on and synthesize experiences in the Public Health program and connect them with public health practice and professional goals. Students will examine publications from different areas of public health, compose an original document for use in public health practice and explore one profession in public health.
  • Learning Objectives: 1. Using a self-identified publication about a controversial public health topic: a. Analyze textual and visual arguments presented b. Consider the role of stakeholders in the issue presented in the document c. Map public health activities and values that connect to the publication 2. Write a public health communication for use in the real world that is appropriate in terms of purpose, audience and style 3. Use structured peer review to provide feedback to your peers on their writing 4. Create a PowerPoint presentation video with effective visuals and a clear and compelling delivery 5. Recognize the importance of collaboration and cross-cutting skills in public health communication
