Accessibility 101: Principles of Inclusive Design
University of Michigan School of Public Health
M1123 SPH II, 1415 Washington Heights Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2029

Accessible Education is the process of designing courses and developing a teaching style to meet the needs of people from a variety of backgrounds, abilities and learning styles. When you design your course to be accessible, you anticipate that people will have diverse needs, and so ensure that everyone in your class will be able to learn successfully.

The objective of this workshop is to introduce participants to the basics of accessibility and to provide guidelines, as well as practical tips and strategies to make courses, materials, and teaching more accessible to all students. This session is recommended for anyone interested in accessible education, and more broadly for anyone interested in understanding how to design materials that are accessible to diverse audiences. It is therefore suitable for both faculty and staff, and is eligible for 1 CPE credit.
