University of Michigan School of Public Health
M1152 SPH II, 1415 Washington Heights Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2029

Applying to a Ph.D. Program? Confused about the difference between a Personal Statement and a Statement of Purpose? Uncertain about what the admissions committee is looking for? If so, this workshop is for you. The workshop will cover the Personal statement and Statement of Purpose for the Rackham Ph.D application, as well as cover some FAQs about the application of other schools. We will go over some of the most common Do’s and Don’t’s of PS/SoPs, and look at some samples to see what makes for an effective statement. The goal is to help you write the most effective personal statement possible to help your chances of Ph.D. admission. Bring your questions, possible drafts, and/or instructions from your graduate program of choice. NOTE: this workshop is primarily targeted to 2nd year Master’s students planning to apply to Ph.D. programs this year. However, the information may also be of interest to potential medical school applicants and other personal statement writers
