You're invited to attend Michigan Public Health's Virtual Info Session - focused on our General Epidemiology program.  The webinar will take place on Thursday, February 7 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. (EST). This information session will help you learn more about our General Epidemiology program and give you the opportunity to ask questions. 

 

One of our featured speaker will be Alison Mondul, Assistant Professor, Epidemiology. Dr. Mondul's has devoted her scientific career to studying the role of modifiable risk factors in the etiology of cancer. In particular, she has studied how lifestyle factors (such as use of common medications) and factors related to diet and nutrition (such as micronutrients and lipids) may influence prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, as well as other genitourinary conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia. She has further studied how genetic factors may contribute to or modify these associations. More recently, she has become involved in studying head and neck cancer, which is an exciting area of inquiry as it remains an understudied cancer. In order to study these associations she has used molecular epidemiologic techniques including hypothesis-driven studies of serum biomarkers, genome-wide association studies, and metabolomic profiling.

 

Kayla Getz is an alumni of our General Epidemiology program and is currently an epidemiology  doctoral student. Her research interest is in cancer epidemiology with a focus on modifiable risk factors and genetic contributions to disease specific and overall survival of cancer patients.
