Prison Birth Project is a student organization that advocates for incarcerated women to have a humane childbirth experience with education, doula support, and respect during their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum process. We aim to empower mothers to be advocates for themselves, their children and their communities, and engage in the betterment of reproductive, criminal, and reproductive justice. Humanity in Healthcare: Conversations About Birth in Prison is Prison Birth Project's first annual symposium. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and foster a discussion surrounding action that can be taken towards prison reform and reproductive justice. This event will begin with a tabling session (with snacks!), allowing attendees to interact with related local organizations. Attendees will then have the chance to hear from our two keynote speakers: Toni Bunton and Lindsey Vandenburg, both activists and formerly incarcerated women. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to become directly involved in conversations surrounding healthcare and policy in prison, via several workshops hosted by local activists.
