Fall Service Day
Meet at School of Public Health
Meet at School of Public Health

The School of Public Health is piloting a Fall Service Day event on Friday, September 20! The University is hosting "Earthfest" on September 19, and we'd like to keep the momentum going with our public health students. We still plan to host Service Day in the Spring, as we have done for the past three years, but wanted to look for another opportunity to partner with our local community and serve the health of the world. This opportunity also gives students a chance to meet peers from around the school who share a passion for volunteering. Please note, there are limited spots to participate in Fall Service Day!

Growing Hope Urban Farm

  • Volunteers will self-select into groups to complete tasks from helping sort and plan which seeds we will be using in the current season, to propagating, transplanting, up-potting, watering, weeding and preparing beds, harvesting and more on Growing Hope Urban Farm.
  • 1:30-6:30 pm (Please note: time includes travel to and from Growing Hope. Transportation is provided by the School of Public Health) Please meet in the SPH I Lobby between 1:15-1:25 pm. The bus will leave the School of Public Health promptly at 1:30 pm.
  • If you plan to provide your own transportation, please notify Dani Koel (danikoel@umich.edu). Growing Hope's address: 922 West Michigan Ave., Ypsilanti, MI 48197

Huron River Watershed Council

  • Students will meet in 1655 SPH I for a brief training session at 2:00 pm before traveling to nearby neighborhoods on campus to participate in the Adopt-a-Stormdrain Project, which will include posting signage to educate the community that anything that goes down the stormdrain goes directly to the Huron River – without any treatment.
  • Students will have the option to walk or utilize the campus bus system to travel to-and-from their designated area on campus.
  • Students will return to the School of Public Health and be done with this service project by 5:00 pm.
