The Virtual Documentary Night group watches documentaries that are chosen democratically, then meets monthly on zoom to discuss them. This event will be from 7 pm to 9 pm, but participants may drop in when available and don't have to stay the entire time. It is very flexible so people can come and go whenever they'd like. This month, the discussion will center on the documentary, Taken For A Ride. With investigative journalism, vintage archival footage and candid interviews, this film presents a revealing history of our cities in the 20th century and the events that caused the cultural shift from mass transit to individual car use. Here is a link to where you can watch the documentary for free. https://youtu.be/p-I8GDklsN4 Everyone watches the film on their own prior to the event, then meets on zoom to discuss. Everyone will break out into randomized small groups of around 4 or 5 people with a discussion prompt, and will have about 20 minutes or so to discuss in their groups. There are multiple rounds of small group discussion with different groups before ending with brainstorming and voting on the next documentary to watch. The event is very flexible, so people can feel free to join late and leave early if they need to. There will be a wide range of people in attendance ranging in ages from 20s to 80s, and coming from all over Atlanta (where this event was founded) and other parts of the country. Relevant student organizations and academic departments from numerous universities in states throughout the Eastern Time Zone are also invited. This is a free public event.
