Alaya Martin recently began a direct entry Master of Science in Nursing program, with a Psychiatric/Mental Health specialty, at MGH Institute of Health Professions. However, Martin was previously an advisory services analyst in the Health Unit at Mathematica, whose work focused on improving population and community health through providing technical assistance, developing learning systems, and evaluating programs with a health equity lens. Examples of her work at Mathematica included:

  1. conducting a developmental evaluation of a pilot program that focused on advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion,
  2. leading annual update efforts for a depression screening quality measure reported in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, and
  3. developing a theory of change to guide progress toward birth equity goals.

Prior to Mathematica, Martin was an Associate at Avalere Health, assisting with research and analysis to help clients create go-to-market strategies, improve quality of care, understand reimbursement landscapes, and achieve other various healthcare-related undertakings. She believes that having the opportunity to live in good health is a human right for everyone and is passionate about solving critical issues in the U.S. healthcare delivery system. Martin obtained a Master of Public Health degree in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan in 2019 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Women's Studies with a focus in women's health from Spelman College in 2017.
