What We Love

What We Love

  • The snow.
  • Lighthouses.
  • The Upper Peninsula.
  • Beaver Island. I go there every year to visit family.
  • One of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever taken, anywhere, is Route 26, between Copper Harbor and Eagle River in the Upper Peninsula.
  • Cross-country skiing.
  • Mackinac Island—that’s my favorite.
  • I love Pictured Rocks and Marquette, where you can jump off the cliffs into the most crystal-clear Lake Superior water.
  • Sylvania Park in the Upper Peninsula, where the loggers used to be.
  • The UP is so beautiful. It’s amazing.
  • Water within two hours of wherever I am.
  • The vineyards.
  • Loons on the lake.
  • Walleye.
  • The light.
  • The lakes.
  • The autumn. It’s my bestest time ever.
  • The fact that there are four seasons here. I come from Indiana, where there are two seasons: hot and hotter.
  • Apple-picking.
  • U-Pick. Lots of U-Pick.
  • Sleeping Bear Dunes.
  • Christmas trees.
  • A sense of community.
  • I like the fact that everyone runs all the time, all year long, even if it’s cold outside. There’s the Big House Big Heart Race at the University of Michigan, and Dexter has the Turkey Trot. I wasn’t a runner until I got to Michigan.
  • Michigan football.
  • Michigan State football.
  • Traverse City.
  • Rolling hills.
  • The ability to participate in breakthrough research in cities such as Flint and Detroit. Detroit serves as a national blueprint of what many other metropolitan cities might be facing in the coming years.
  • Bright sunshine.
  • Sandhill cranes.
  • People are really health-conscious here in Ann Arbor.
  • The robins.
  • I like northern Michigan a lot, especially in the summer.
  • The Tigers and the Lions.
  • It’s home. Really, that’s the best thing about it. It’s home.
  • Water sports.
  • Fishing.
  • Our great small towns.
  • Lake Michigan.
  • The Ohio State–Michigan game.
  • The fall is beautiful here.
  • In Michigan you realize how good apples are.
  • Geographical diversity throughout the state.
  • Ski-mobiling.
  • Top of the Park.
  • Michigan International Speedway.
  • Changing topography.
  • I’m a sailor, so I like the lakes.
  • Michigan’s rich history.
  • Water.
  • The Huron River.
  • I like that there’s water everywhere.
  • Michigan apples and cherries.
  • I really like Ann Arbor in the summertime. It’s got a really relaxed feel to it.
  • Apples.
  • The sand dunes.
  • Michigan blueberries.
  • Fall leaves, fall colors.
  • The Arb.
  • Those magically crisp and clear days in late September and October with piercing blue skies and shimmering leaves.
