Current Research

My goal is to use the skills of decision science, mathematical modeling, and data mining to identify patterns and preferences and to evaluate programs that prevent suicide and help those experiencing grief. For my dissertation I am using data mining and econometric techniques to evaluate the changes in medical expenditures for those who had a family member die in the hospital in the US. I am also conducting a national survey through the NORC AmeriSpeak® panel to study the health related quality of life impact of knowing someone who died by suicide. The final part of my dissertation is a mathematical model that simulates the quality adjusted life years (QALYs) saved when preventing a suicide death and all its associated grief among surviving family members and friends.
