State awards U-M $1M for Michigan School Safety Initiative

School of Public Health faculty members Justin Heinze and Marc Zimmerman are set to lead a new statewide initiative to enhance school safety and prevent school violence, including school shootings. The Michigan School Safety Initiative will be available to all K-12 schools in the state, providing training and assistance to district leadership and staff regarding evidence-based best practices.

A team of University of Michigan researchers from the School of Public Health DoGoodS-Pi Environmental Epigenetics Lab and Michigan Medicine are working to understand how behaviors and environments during pregnancy can cause changes to the way genes work in offspring. This emerging field is known as toxicoepigenetics.

A new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and led by University of Michigan School of Public Health researchers is adding to growing evidence of the association between cumulative malaria infections and endemic Burkitt lymphoma (eBL) in the sub-Saharan African countries of Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya.
