Amani Echols' chose public health because she wanted to make the most impact for the most people. As a co-founder of the Health Equity High School summit, and a staff member at doula program, Dial-A-Doula, she's working directly to combat health inequity and inspire new leaders.
Regardless of the role you play in health care, patients should be at the center of how we design our systems of care, says master’s student José Gutiérrez. To that end, Gutiérrez is committed to implementing administrative and physical structures in health care that are patient-centric.
Katharine Bradley was steered toward public health by her mother’s career in hospital administration, but, she says, “health insurance policy is different than administration.” Now equipped with a PhD in Health Services Research and Policy, she works to create research-based evidence about Medicaid implementation so we can have better health care policy.
Maddy Schmitter writes from Southeast Asia, where she is working on organic farms to learn more about sustainable food systems. With these experiences and all she learned as a public health student at Michigan, she will continue supporting practices that lead to better human and environmental health.
Long before the dangers of global warming were clear to us, public health researchers were pursuing protective measures for our most basic and valuable environmental resources and linking that work to concerns about health equity and environmental justice.
