Overview

The University of Michigan Kidney Epidemiology and Cost Center (KECC) offers services to University of Michigan research teams via a recharge model payable by shortcode. KECC measures and reports the quality of healthcare, seeks to improve the effectiveness of clinical practice, and informs national public policy regarding organ failure and treatment. This mission is pursued through interdisciplinary research with a focus on advances in biostatistics and clinical outcomes. Our organization empowers faculty and staff to be adaptable and interconnected; promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion; prioritizes continuous improvement; and enables exceptional educational opportunities.

KECC Service Offerings

FISMA Infrastructure and Support

KECC manages and maintains a secure HIPAA and FISMA enclave, which meets FISMA moderate and exceeds FISMA low requirements, available for use by University of Michigan researchers. IT staff expertise and support are included in the recharge fee for this service. 

Expert Consultation and Staff Effort

  • Analytical expertise in SAS and R data preparation, standard analysis file creation, statistical analysis and reporting, including programs requiring complex combination of data from multiple sources.  
  • Independent critical analyses of pertinent literature, and contributions to research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation. 
  • Big data compilation and manipulation utilizing SAS and Oracle. 
  • Data and systems infrastructure security evaluation and design. 
  • Coding complex processes such as Patient Matching from disparate data sources. 
  • Business and technical proposal writing. 
  • Project management, including monitoring and executing projects and deliverables, budgeting, resource allocation, and stakeholder management.
