The Effect of COVID-19 on Food Insecurity in the United States
The Coronavirus pandemic and the societal changes it has prompted are profoundly and quickly changing American life. Americans are being asked to work from home, non-essential businesses are closing, and schools and daycare centers are closed. These changes have the potential to exacerbate food insecurity among low-income Americans. Researchers fielded a national online survey of low-income adults in the US to measure the effect of the COVID-19 outbreak on food insecurity and other health outcomes. They fielded an initial survey in March, just as distancing measures were starting to be implemented. Follow-up surveys are being planned. This project is funded by the University of Michigan's Poverty Solutions initiative.
