Research Interests

My research aims to better understand the spatial and temporal determinants of persistent and emerging social problems and their impact on health and health equity. I view substance use, economic disadvantage, and crime as key social and structural factors that separately and jointly impact the health of populations. To that end, much of my work views these associations through a health equity framework, examining how these social and structural determinants of health shape various public health outcomes, encompassing areas such as substance use, addiction, mental health, and youth crime and gun violence.

Research Projects

Most of my current research focusses on identifying disparities in the patterns of tobacco use across the life course, including barriers to smoking cessation, and the downstream health effects associated with tobacco product use.
