About Us

The University of Michigan Future Public Health Leaders Program (Michigan FPHLP) is a 10-week residential program at the University of Michigan School of Public Health designed to encourage underrepresented college students to consider careers in public health. 

In cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office of Minority Health and Health Equity’s (OMHHE), FPHLP offers a combination of enrichment and field experience to its participants. Michigan FPHLP is one of seven public health summer programs under the CDC John R. Lewis Undergraduate Public Health Scholars (Lewis Scholars) Program.

Michigan FPHLP Objectives:

1. To promote and introduce public health careers to undergraduate college students
2. Improve cultural and linguistic competency through diversity in the health-related workforce
3. Strengthen and broaden leadership for addressing health equity at all levels
4. Increased awareness of the significance of health disparities, their impact on the nation, and the actions necessary to improve health outcomes for racial, ethnic, and other populations
