Research Centers

University of Michigan Centers with a focus on community engagement and research will collaborate with the FPHLP to advance students’ understanding of public health research and methods to create evidence-based solutions to address and reduce health disparities more effectively. Research Centers will include institutes and investigators conducting public health research across the University of Michigan campus.

Below you can find examples of past field experience sites and the project the students of that cohort worked on.

The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention

The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among social sciences, arts, engineering, and public health to address critical questions about preventing firearm injuries. It examines firearm injuries across the lifespan, including issues such as suicide, community violence, unintentional injuries, intimate partner violence, school and mass shootings, peer violence, police violence, and disparities based on race, gender, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.

Past Field Experience Projects

At the Institute for Firearm Injury prevention, the student's project consisted of designing and developing the initial set of study materials to serve as baseline for the SafERteens study’s promotion. I also developed a Microsoft Excel sheet to track 80+ participants in the SafERteens study and was in charge of reminding 73 clinical providers to complete the SafERteens 3 month follow-up survey.
