Research Focus: I work as the project manager for multiple studies including our parent study (BASIC (Brain Attack Surveillance in Corpus Christi)), facilitating collaboration between our data collection team located in South Texas and our data management team here at UM. Our research aims to delineate and explain the stroke burden in Mexican Americans compared with non-Hispanic whites. We conduct stroke surveillance, assess post-stroke outcomes and post-stroke sleep apnea, and examine outcomes in surrogate decision makers of stroke patients. Our goal is that this research will lead to improvements in post-stroke outcomes for both stroke patients and their families and caregivers.
