Bringing mixed methods into epidemiology and epidemiology into mixed methods research Epidemiology tends to rely on quantitative research methods. However, qualitative methods can provide valuable tools to improve epidemiological inference in studies of complex health processes. At the same time, epidemiological thinking is key for addressing factors such as confounding, selection bias, and effect modification in mixed-methods studies.
