Please join Black and Pink at the School of Public Health as we launch our penpod/penpal program! The purpose of this event is to introduce folks to corresponding with incarcerated people as a fundamental abolitionist practice that resonates with the tenets of public health. The first part of an event will feature a short presentation about writing with incarcerated folks. Attendees will then have an opportunity to get matched as a penpod or penpal. We'll also be making birthday cards (which does not require a commitment to long-term correspondence, but does require your creativity). Penpals are one-to-one correspondences where one 'free world' person exchanges letters with one incarcerated person. Penpods are a new approach we are experimenting with that will allow a small group of 'free world' individuals to share in writing with one incarcerated person. So bring your friends. There will be snacks. All are welcome!
