Connecting with and learning about the journey of alumni within public health can be an informative experience as you plan your path. If you are a prospective or admitted graduate student who is considering pursuing a degree within the field of public health, please join us for an Alumni Lightning Talk with Allie Martin!
This session will allow you to hear directly from Michigan Public Health alumni about their experiences as a student and career trajectories post-graduation.
Allie earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and biology from the University of Denver, and more recently a Master of Public Health in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Michigan in 2021. Growing up in agricultural communities of rural Colorado gave her a unique exposure to America’s food system and food access challenges that set the course for her passion in public health nutrition. During her master’s program, Allie gained meaningful experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and community outreach as a Dow Sustainability Fellow with a project that focused on urban agriculture to address environmental health and food access challenges in a Michigan community. Currently as a Registered Dietitian and Program Specialist for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, she provides wide-ranging support for states and Tribal Nations that administer WIC and federal farmers market programs in the Mountain Plains Region. Overall, Allie's professional passions include maternal and child health, sustainable agriculture and food systems, equitable food access, and global nutrition.
