Career Fairs

Our In-person Public Health Career Fairs with corresponding Virtual Student & Alumni Chats provide students, employers, and alumni working in specific sectors of Public Health to build meaningful connections towards the goal of supporting our future Public Health leaders in their career journeys. The three sectors include:

  • Consulting and Private Sector Firms: Friday, Sept. 20, 2024
  • Hospitals, Healthcare Systems & Research Centers: Friday, Jan. 24, 2025
  • Non-profit Organizations & Government Departments: Friday, Feb. 21, 2025

Through participating in the Public Health Career Fields, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the career sectors where Public Health graduates work
  2. Recognize key employers across sectors that hire graduates with their specialization
  3. Use networking skills including introducing themselves and asking thoughtful questions
  4. Create an effective resume in advance of the fair(s) they attend
  5. Build relationships with employers and alumni working in the Public Health field
  6. Connect with peers across degrees, departments, and years interested in similar Public Health fields

Public Health Career Fair Programming

We've structured our Public Health Career Fairs to include both in-person and virtual elements as well as programming aimed for students at various levels of their career preparation journey. Each Public Health Career Fair will include the following components:

Introduce yourself to Public Health Employers interested in hiring Michigan Public Health students for internships and jobs. You can share your resume, talk about your interests in working in this field, and ask them questions about the opportunities available at their organization.

Talk with Michigan Public Health 2nd year students about their internship experiences at various companies/organizations in this sector. You can ask about their internship projects, supervision, office environment, networking opportunities, and more to gain insights into where you want to intern for the upcoming summer.

Hear from alumni during 30-minute sessions including a presentation and Q&A where they will share about their day-to-day work, their responsibilities, the work environment, and their advice for students working in a specific Public Health sector.

The week after the Career Fair for a specific Public Health sector (Consulting & Private Sector Firms, Hospitals, Healthcare Systems & Research Centers, or Non-Profit Organizations & Government Departments), students will be able to virtually meet with alumni working in that sector for virtual 1:1. Students will sign up for 25-min meetings on the Careers Gateway with alumni in order to talk with them about their career journey, role, and advice for working in that field.
