Gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori infection in Lima, Peru: The Role of Water Contamination. Working in the environmental control laboratory of the Ministry of Health in Peru, trained the laboratory staff in molecular methods to detect H. pylori and prepared presentations to be given to the Pan American Health Organization's Inter-American Network of Food Analysis Laboratories.

Extension of laboratory work begun during the previous academic year.
The role of home environment interventions on pediatric asthma symptoms, control and health care utilization among innver city children in the United States. Working with the UM-SPH Center for Managing Chronic Disease, assisted in the writing and research of a manuscript, developed questionnaires. and analyzed qualitative data.

Vigilance in a Petroleum Refinery: Keeping the Workers, Their Families, and the Community Health and Safe. Evaluated refinery unit operators and laboraty technicians for physical and chemical hazards, mainly noise and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, xylene, and total hydrocarbons. Also conducted personal and area exposure monitoring for benzene on maintenance workers during particular tasks. Generated exposure reports.

Evaluating Detroit Community Markets: A Sample Survey of Customer Satisfaction and Neighborhood Impact. Detroit Community Markets is a network of 14 food providers in the city that seek to increase access to healthy foods. This project involved surveying customer demographics, shopping patterns, attitudes, and overall satisfaction with the neighborhood markets; analysis of the data and providing individual market managers with data to inform their market practices and management.
