Part 1 of this workshop (this session) introduces emotional intelligence (EQ) as a framework to develop increased awareness and management of our actions. We will complete a self-awareness inventory to explore our emotional narratives and create strategies to communicate our needs and boundaries with others.

Part 2 of this workshop (April 3rd) will explore how social identity and power contextualize the nature of our EQ in communication and relationships with others. We will expand upon the tools learned in Part 1 by learning to respond to common microaggressions through a practice of cultural humility and identity consciousness.

Outcomes:

  • Define and analyze the four domains of emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Understand EQ in relationship to cultivating a culture and organizational systems that center equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Identify personal and interpersonal coping strategies that support emotional regulation
  • Recognize empathy as a tool to improve a social awareness and relationship management
  • Identify significant influences forming your emotional narratives and responses common personal and social barriers to emotional intelligence
