The Department of Biostatistics is honored and excited to have these opportunities to welcome our alumni home, hear their stories, experiences, research, work, and journeys, and exchange ideas, news, and information! We welcome Dr. Mark Reppell, 2014 graduate for a talk titled: Leveraging Computational Genomics to Advance a Pharmaceutical Pipeline At the University of Michigan, I studied both statistical and population genetics. This background has served me well in my current position where I lead a team that seeks to leverage AbbVie’s investment in population scale genetics to make meaningful contributions to both drug discovery and development. On a daily basis I work with clinicians, disease area experts, wet lab scientists, and information researchers to synthesize new questions, new experiments, and new analyses that can move our programs forward. The emphasis U of M Biostatistics placed on thinking in terms of models and hypotheses, checking assumptions, and spending extra time on the best way to interpret and communicate findings have all proven invaluable as my career has progressed. I’m looking forward to meeting with current students to talk about my research and preach the importance of Biostat 699.
