Understanding social power, and our relationships to it, is foundational to practicing inclusive leadership. In order to work with diverse groups towards shared goals, effective, inclusive leaders are aware of power dynamics and navigate them in ways that share power among group members. However, this is easier said than done. Where does your power come from? Where do you see power operating in your organizations, departments, and communities? What does your relationship to power mean for your ability to leverage the diverse skills and contributions on your teams? In this session, we will explore conceptualizations of social power, identify and reflect on your proximities and relationships to power, and apply concepts to your own leadership practice. This workshop is designed for master's students, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows.
