A hypothetical college football game—a familiar scenario for Michigan students—provided the backdrop to a remote preparedness exercise for public health students and the Washtenaw County Health Department. Familiarity with the Big House and surrounding terrain helped the students focus on how to keep everyone healthy.
Social determinants of health are key influences in shaping health outcomes. With this in mind, a group of six undergraduate students from the University of Michigan School of Public Health came together to publish a paper on how the COVID-19 pandemic will impact various social determinants of health as we look toward the future and the virus continues to spread.
Global internships last summer were rather different from what students might have envisioned. With a creative spirit, adaptable skills, and a passion for moving public health forward, Michigan students spent their summer months connecting with and learning from a variety of global health partners.
Early screening and intervention, including in the doctor’s office, can help address health inequities and mitigate their impact. The negative effects of childhood adversity extend to a variety of health outcomes. Screening promotes well-being by ensuring families have the resources they need to maintain a healthy environment for their child.
