How to access data or collaborate
If you are interested in developing a research proposal working with The Early Life Exposures in Mexico to ENvironmental Toxicants (ELEMENT) cohort or would like to access ELEMENT data to use in a piece of work you wish to undertake then you will need to follow these next step:
- Requests for existing data will be reviewed, prioritised and authorised by the ELEMENT team. The Investigator should complete an External ELEMENT Research Proposal form available below.
- Any new data derived from the ELEMENT cohort (interview, physical measurements, new variables derived from existing data) must be lodged with the ELEMENT database at the end of the project (or at any time at the request of the ELEMENT PI). The nested study Principal Investigator must supply adequate documentation concerning new variables (including statistical programs) to permit their use in future analyses of the data.
- The Investigator must notify the ELEMENT team of any potential errors discovered whilst using ELEMENT data.
Before you contact us, please make sure you have read our Guidance for Collaborators and review the materials provided in our Documentation and Data section. Our ELEMENT executive team review proposals on a monthly basis and we will endeavor to respond to your request as soon as possible. If you are unsure if we have the data that you need please contact our ELEMENT cohort manager, Ms. Laura Arboleda-Merino ([email protected]).
Once you have formulated your request, please complete the External ELEMENT Research Proposal Form.

- If you are a current ELEMENT researcher and/or collaborator, please use the Internal ELEMENT Research Proposal Form instead.

Once your request is approved we will ask you to sign a collaboration agreement and if your request involves biological samples we will ask you to complete a material transfer agreement.
