Ready to Learn, Ready to Listen

Public Health Undergraduate Senior

As I get ready to leave for San Antonio, I have been thinking a lot about what it means to lead with curiosity and humility. I have spent the last few years studying public health in classrooms, hospitals, and community organizations, but this experience feels different. This time, I am not just learning about the population. This time I am learning with them. I am looking forward to understanding how people actually experience health in their daily lives, outside of the models we study. I am eager to hear stories, observe routines, and eliminate barriers to health. The small details of someone’s life really matter in the grand scheme of health.

Of course, I am also a little near plus. I want to show up in a way that feels genuine. I hope to ask good questions, listen more than I speak, and make sure the people I meet feel seen. I look forward to learning how to balance the roles of a student and guest.

I am curious what I will learn about myself in the process too. I am looking to see how I adapt and handle uncertainty. This is a great experience for me to be pushed out of my normal routines. Right now, I am ready to learn, listen, and be changed by what’s ahead.
