Program and Degrees

The Department of Health Management and Policy offers a variety of master’s degree programs related to healthcare and public health services, including a Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA) and a Master of Public Health (MPH). There are also several dual-degree programs. All of our degrees integrate education in both management and policy, preparing students for a wide range of professional positions within the field.

Master of Public Health (MPH) 

The two-year, 60-credit hour residential MPH degree prepares students for leadership roles in public and private sector careers in public health policy, planning, and advocacy. The curriculum focuses on socioeconomic conditions, cultural beliefs and practices, behavioral risk factors, and environmental exposures that influence population health. The degree includes a 10-12 week internship.

Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA)

The two-year, 60-credit hour residential MHSA degree focuses on the organization, financing, marketing, and management of health care systems. The program prepares students for leadership roles and careers in health care, including, but not limited to health systems, hospitals, clinics, and emergency services, insurance, and consulting. The degree includes a 10-12 week internship.

Executive Master's Program in Health Management and Policy

Similar to a traditional healthcare MBA program, the hybrid-format HMP Executive Master’s Program allows students to pursue a MHSA degree while working full-time. It is designed for the dedicated working professional who wants to pursue career advancement in many sectors of health care, administration, and business.

The Health Services Organization and Policy (HSOP) Program is the HMP doctoral program leading to a PhD and prepares students for careers in research, teaching, and policy analysis in health services and policy.
