So Many Things to Look Forward To!
Tam Ngo
2nd Year, Master of Health Services Administration Candidate
Hello! My name is Tam, and I am so excited to be participating in this 2024 trip to Grenada.
My roots in public health grew at the University of Michigan in 2015, when I participated
in the Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP). I’m happy to be back here at
UM as a 2nd year graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in health administration.
My path since FPHLP has grown toward a more business focused side in healthcare but
I still have deep appreciation for all things public health, which is why I’m excited
to participate in this trip.
My group (Anisah, Mildred, Carlton, Munira) will be working on providing recommendations
to the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs on how to establish its first
ever disability unit. I feel very honored to be working on such a meaningful project.
I recognize that the PHAST relationship with our partner organizations in Grenada
have been built by those who came before us and will (hopefully) continue to be built
upon by those who will come after us. I look forward to building on existing relationships
and creating new ones on this trip, representing PHAST, the School of Public Health,
and the University of Michigan in the best way possible.
On a personal note, I grew up in San Jose, CA, and being from California, if someone
were to reference the islands, my first thought would be of Hawaii. I never would
have thought my perception of islands would be changed now living in the Midwest,
let alone getting to experience this opportunity to go to Grenada during spring break!
I’m looking forward to going to the beach and being able to put my feet in the warm
waters of the Caribbean Sea.
