NIMHD Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training (MHRT) Program (T37)

An earth globe with hands on it

The Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training (MHRT) Program funded by the National Institutes of Health seeks to increase the number of underrepresented students trained in health disparities research and entering biomedical behavioral health careers.

MHRT at the University of Michigan School of Public Health works with undergraduate, post baccalaureate, masters, PhD, postdoctoral and health professions students to increase knowledge and research health disparities training within the global context focusing on child health, maternal health and global health.

Program activities consist of:

  • Research preparation that includes training in health equity, cultural humility, and project-specific research training.
  • 12-week research field experience (longer experience for postdoctoral trainees) with established faculty to develop and/or strengthen health disparities research skills.
  • Post experience opportunities for facilitation of research presentations and manuscripts.

Michigan MHRT has project sites in Chile, Dearborn (Michigan), India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Thailand, Fiji and Nepal. Project sites and placement focus may vary each year.

We are no longer accepting applications for our 2024 program. Information about our 2025 program will be available in fall 2024.
