Program Benefits
MHRT trainees will participate in an ongoing research project with mentors from the University of Michigan and the placement site location faculty. Participants will gain research knowledge and skills focused on health disparities as well as hone their ability to work with individuals from other countries and backgrounds.
Trainees from institutions outside of the University of Michigan are sponsored as Guest Students for the duration of their MHRT traineeship, granting them access to select U-M library, computing and other campus resources.
The MHRT experience may be used to fulfill academic program internship requirements or the collection of pilot data for doctoral research proposals.
In addition to receiving a living stipend for the 10 to 12-week research field experience, each participant will have the following expenses covered directly by the MHRT program:
- Roundtrip airfare and ground transportation to the research site
- Lodging at the research site location or nearby
- Immunization fees and medical prophylaxis, as recommended by the CDC
- Health Insurance
- Visa fees, if applicable
- Travel and lodging for the on-site orientation and poster session, as applicable
- NOTE: MHRT cannot reimburse the costs related to obtaining or renewing a passport
Through MHRT, you will become a part of a nework of trainees have participated in U-M MHRT throughout it's 30 year history at the University of Michigan.
Mentorship relationships may be lasting and provide a tangible impact on trainee's careers.
