University of Michigan Wins 2016 Cleveland Clinic Case Competition!

HMP students: Jonathan Waller, Pauline Do, Jennifer Dingle, Greg WnukA team of four students (Jonathan Waller, Pauline Do, Jennifer Dingle, and Greg Wnuk) from the department of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health took home first prize in the 2016 Cleveland Clinic Competition.

The 3rd Annual Cleveland Clinic Case Competition was held Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8, 2016. The Case Competition is designed to offer graduate level students in health administration the opportunity to apply their coursework to a real-world situation and develop recommendations to a team of executives at an internationally recognized health system. Participants are given a weekend to develop recommendations to be reviewed by a team of Cleveland Clinic physicians and administrators. Teams must consist of MHA or MBA students or students enrolled in equivalent graduate programs.

This year's case focused on a current Cleveland Clinic enterprise strategic initiative.

Prizes

  • 1st Place Team: $9,000 per team and opportunity to have an informational interview for the Administrative Fellowship or other career opportunities at Cleveland Clinic
  • 2nd Place Team: $6,000 per team
  • 3rd Place Team: $3,000 per team
  • 4th Place Teams: $1,500 per team

Judges for the case competition included the COO, CFO, CSO, and Chief of International for Cleveland Clinic. Jay Thaker, MPH '14 and Project Manager at International Operations, Cleveland Clinic noted that the judges were so impressed with this team that during their final deliberations they decided to DOUBLE the prize money.
