Funding and Careers
Due to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and related worldwide travel disruptions, the Office of Global Public Health's funding programs for overseas summer internships are on hold until further notice. The University of Michigan has banned all travel through July 1 and is actively engaged in getting all students/faculty/staff overseas back home to the United States. See https://global.umich.edu/travel-resources/warnings-restrictions/ for University updates on travel.
The School of Public Health is suspending internship requirements for MPH and MHSA students. This decision was made to protect the health and safety of our student community. Students scheduled to graduate through winter term 2021 who have not yet completed the requirement will not need an internship to receive their degree. Students may elect to complete an intership is summer in accordance with university travel guidelines.
PhD students can still apply for pre-dissertation funding, for travel after July 1. The application deadline remains April 17. However, due to the ever-changing nature of this international emergency, please understand that the University's travel ban could be extended past July 1, and travel plans may need to be canceled or changed. We advise you not to purchase airline tickets until the travel ban is lifted and awards are made.
Please carefully read email messages from the School of Public Health for instructions, changes, or additional information regarding required internships.
For Masters Students: The Office of Global Public Health (OGPH) call for proposals for SPH masters students interested in completing their summer internship in a global context is open. Final applications are due February 14. For structured NGO internships that notify AFTER the February 14 deadline, see our NGO Internship Funding page.
