Photo Submission for Global Internships
U-M SPH students have amazing global experiences, and we want to provide a way to share those experiences across the school, and also give you some recognition for top-quality photography associated with SPH. We encourage you to take photos throughout your internship, and to submit to us those that you think are the best photos that represent public health in the part of the world you are visiting.
Students receiving funding for global public health internships should submit at least 10 photos during the course of their internship.
Best images will be featured on our website on the Student Global Photos website and our social media channels in the late summer and through the fall. All photos may be selected for use in official SPH publications and websites. Students who submit high-quality images may also select one to be printed and framed as a memento of your experience. Please follow these guidelines for photo submission.
Quality subject matter
Your photos should reflect something about the internship experience, the public health setting in which you are participating, and should follow all the guidelines for good composition and shot framing described in our Video and Photo Best Practices documents. We encourage you to include University of Michigan items, such as U-M branded clothing, flags, pennants, etc. in at least some of your photos. However, U-M branded items are not required.
Permissions
Photos must follow all U-M SPH guidelines for privacy, respect, and consent, and the student must have express permission to share and use these photos in a public setting. Most of the time, permission can be achieved through an informal conversation, but we do recommend you consider using our photo permission release forms, which can be obtained either as printable pages or filled out as online forms. Formal consent forms ARE REQUIRED for minor subjects under 16 years of age. U-M SPH is not able to use any photos of identifiable subjects under 16 years of age unless written consent from a parent or guardian is obtained.

Quality imagery
Your photos must be high-resolution, in sharp focus, and without extraneous elements or obvious quality flaws.
How to Submit Photos
All submitted photos must:
- Use filename format: [YourLastName-YourFirstName]-[Location]-[Date]

That's it - hopefully we've made the process relatively friendly.
By submitting your photos, you are granting U-M SPH full permission to use these photos at our discretion in any official marketing and communications materials. You retain ownership of the photos and can use them for whatever purposes you choose. If you have questions or problems submitting photos, please contact: [email protected].
We encourage students to document their global expeiences through blogging, photography and videos. Guidelines, resources, advice, and information for success in documenting your experience are online:
