NGO Internship Funding Program
Overview
The Office of Global Public Health (OGPH) at the School of Public Health supports student research, applied service, management, and policy internships can help develop important global health skills and competencies. We have a great interest in supporting internships that present a significant opportunity for students to learn and grow. We recognize that internships at non-governmental organizations (NGO's) may be of interest to UM SPH Masters students. In many cases, NGO's do not notify students of acceptance to their internship programs until after the mid-Febraury deadline for Master's Level Internship Funding through the Office of Global Public Health.
With these considerations in mind, we offer the NGO Internship Funding Program.
Criteria
Candidates must meet all criteria as listed on our Master's Level Internship Funding Program website, including attendance at one of our required Global Public Health Funding Proposal Workshops.
To be considered for support, candidates must be:
- Currently enrolled in a School of Public Health Master's Degree Program
- Completing a global public health summer internship that includes, at minimum, 8 weeks of overseas travel to the internship site
- If funds permit, we may support a limited number of strong proposals for remote internships
Application Process
All of the documents required for our Master's Level Internship Funding Program must be submitted. However, please note the guidance regarding completing the proposal, itinerary and buget to the best of your knowledge:
- A completed online application form: When submitting the application, use the internship job description or scope of work to complete the internship title, location, and country as well as any contact information listed in the posting if the preceptor is yet to be determined.
- A two-page proposal: For your 2-page proposal, use that same description/scope of work to anticipate the kind of work you will be doing at the organization, also taking into consideration your skills and competencies you would like to develop.
- Your CV or Resume
- A Travel Itinerary or Remote Explanation justifying your request (anticipated to the best of your knowledge based on the internship job description)
- A Budget (using this template) and any included attachments to justify the budget, combined in one pdf (anticipated to the best of your knowledge based on the internship job description)
- Your Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
We will review your application along with the others and you will receive notification with all students in mid-March. If awarded, your award will be pending receipt of the actual acceptance letter and any additional details regarding the placement that reviewers request.
Additional Considerations
We recognize that students sometimes apply for several internships, as NGO internships may be highly competitive. If you are not chosen for the internship described in your OGPH funding proposal, we can not guarantee that funds can be transferred to a different internship. You must contact us at [email protected] with any updates regarding your internship acceptance and changes from you original proposal.
An official letter of invitation from the NGO will be required at the time of award, along with all other post award requirements as listed here & in your award letter.
