Working at the University of Michigan’s Environment, Healthy, and Safety department, master's student Xin Zhang helps ensure a healthy workplace and learning environment for staff, faculty, and students on the Ann Arbor campus, including at the famous Big House. With her public health education, she plans to help protect workers in every industry.
Long before the dangers of global warming were clear to us, public health researchers were pursuing protective measures for our most basic and valuable environmental resources and linking that work to concerns about health equity and environmental justice.
When Pahriya Ashrap sees people in need, she imagines opportunities to help—whether she’s in an Ann Arbor lab or online with a math mentee on the other side of the world. Her simple, powerful dream of making a positive impact has motivated her on her long road to public health, where she works to build bridges of culture and science.

Alextia Armstrong earned an MPH in Environmental Health Sciences in the Environment, Sustainability, and Heath program. She interned at the Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant, where she conducted water quality tests, analyzed data, and worked on a sustainability project with City Hall.
Danny Hicks loves the beautiful pragmatism of being in the moment and using the tools at hand to make sound decisions. He also loves doing the hard work of maintaining the human health of communities in and around the military.
