Matthew Hernandez, MPH ’24, became interested in learning about the foundations of public health with the goal of being able to contribute to public health research. Through the online MPH program in Population and Health Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, he said he’s gained the necessary skills to achieve those research goals.
As the senior director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Planning and Integration, American Psychological Association, Nichole Sorhaindo, MPH ’09, drives the strategic planning, development, execution and assessment of association-wide models to create an environment that is accessible, equitable and inclusive for all stakeholders within the organization and the field of psychology.
Even while wading through rafts of spreadsheets, profit reports, inventory assessments and analyses of retail store efficiencies, Lloyd Lyons, BA ’19, never loses sight of the real reason he is here, working as a manager of customer experience strategy for CVS Health. Lyons is one of the 95 students who made up the first cohort of public health majors at Michigan Public Health in 2019.
For Kaveh Ashtari, a Michigan School of Public Health senior working toward a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences, a call to action usually involves helping people. For as long as he can remember, he has been compassionate and empathetic toward friends, family and even strangers.
David Fuller Jr. is a Master of Health Services Administration student who was also the 2022 recipient of the Unsung Hero Award. Through his involvement with Public Health Students of African Descent and his studies, he aims to be a thought leader who makes health equity a reality.
