Maddy Schmitter writes from Southeast Asia, where she is working on organic farms to learn more about sustainable food systems. With these experiences and all she learned as a public health student at Michigan, she will continue supporting practices that lead to better human and environmental health.
Theresa Gorman witnessed firsthand the clean up at Ground Zero after the September 11 attacks and how rescue and recovery workers began to suffer from respiratory problems. She has built a career around ensuring environmental and worker health and urges public health professionals to see their role in disaster preparedness and response.
Working at the University of Michigan’s Environment, Healthy, and Safety department, master's student Xin Zhang helps ensure a healthy workplace and learning environment for staff, faculty, and students on the Ann Arbor campus, including at the famous Big House.
