I stumbled on community health classes my sophomore year. I thought, this is everything I wanted. I care about people, health and helping communities as much as possible. It allowed me to draw knowledge from different fields to address the health needs of the population.
Michigan Public Health alum Pamela Pugh was appointed chief health advisor to the city of Flint earlier this year. An outside observer might assume a clear path from an advanced degree in public health to this role. But Pugh’s story of what brought her to her current position is filled with challenge, perseverance, and unending dedication.
I come from a scientific background. I studied biochemistry in undergrad. It helped me see how the human body functions at a micro level.
