When Aubree Gordon quit a doctoral program in biology, she at first felt like she was going off the road. Looking back at her long path to field epidemiology and the value of her vaccine research to people around the world, these difficult transitions begin making a lot more sense.
Taking a broad interest in biology, Kelly Bakulski found herself studying the subject on both the micro and macro scales. As a professor and researcher in epidemiology, she explores the impact the environment and genetics have on neurological disorders throughout a lifespan. Now, her focus on engaged learning and collaboration in the classroom has led her to be named the 2019 Excellence in Teaching award winner.

An Ann Arbor native Hannah Segaloff didn’t have to travel very far to find the perfect graduate program for her. After getting a degree in microbiology, she began her journey toward a more standardized approach to studying severe influenza among hospitalized patients.
