Herman “Hank” Koren, MPH ’59, credits having an “immense career” thanks to the generosity of Henry F. Vaughan, the inaugural dean of the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Koren is returning the favor Vaughan paid to him by creating the Dr. Herman “Hank” and Mrs. Donna Koren Helping Hands Expendable Fund.
Justin Heinze, associate professor of Health Behavior and Health Education, was selected to join a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine committee set to study the impact of active shooter drills on the health and well-being of K-12 students.
The University of Michigan School of Public Health Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in partnership with several groups across campus, hosted the seminar “We make the road by walking: A symposium on advancing a health equity movement,” a daylong gathering focused on health equity, anti-racism and the health sciences based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones and Dr. Chandra Ford, international thought leaders in anti-racism and health.
Kristi Gamarel and Sari Reisner are leading an evaluation of a program called LEAP (Legal, Economic, and Affirming Peer Support) as part of the NIH-funded Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV Interventions. LEAP addresses social factors that have been linked to inequities in HIV prevention and care outcomes for trans youth of color.
