“As an epidemiologist, these traditional tools for collecting, organizing, and interpreting data are our bread and butter—What diseases are out there? Who is getting them? Why are they getting sick?” Prevots says. “Public health is all about data in action, and we want to do research that ultimately has an impact on clinical practice and policy.”

Shannon Hamilton has always loved the outdoors. That’s part of what drew her to pursue a master’s degree in environmental health sciences from Michigan Public Health. “I’m very interested in how environmental exposures during our lifetime influence our health,” she said.
Sarah Gutin, BS ’03, is passionate about global reproductive health. She is several years into a PhD program in health behavior and health education at the School of Public Health and has been building a career in public health for over a decade.
